Aptitude test for professionally qualified persons

The aptitude test for professionally qualified persons enables employed persons with several years of professional experience to acquire the authorization to study a degree course corresponding to their professional experience.
The aptitude test serves to determine whether the applicant is suitable for studying the desired degree program based on his/her personality, previous knowledge, intellectual abilities and motivation.

Important

It is not possible to register directly for the aptitude test at the Studienkolleg Karlsruhe. Registration must be made through the university!

Profile of applicants and application procedure

Profile of applicants

  • Only applicants for technical, mathematical and scientific degree programs are tested at the KIT Studienkolleg.
  • Applicants for all universities in Baden-Württemberg can be tested here.
  • Applicants for other fields of study can register at the ISZ Heidelberg.
  • Participation in the examination must be applied for in writing to the relevant university by January 31 each year for the following winter semester.

Application procedure:

  • Applicants must first contact the university at which they wish to study.
  • The respective Registrar's Office will inform applicants about the admission requirements and advise them on their choice of subject.
  • The admitting university decides whether the applicant will take part in the aptitude test for professionally qualified students and then registers the applicant for the examination at the preparatory college.
  • Only after an interview with the student advisory service does the Studienkolleg conduct a consultation on the contents of the examination.

Written examination

Supervised work in the subject German:
Essay,
Duration: 120 minutes

Supervised examination in English:
Text comprehension tasks and text production in English (Exemption is possible under certain conditions.)
Duration: 120 minutes

Subject-specific supervisory work:
In relation to the chosen degree program
Duration: 120 minutes

The Studienkolleg at KIT conducts the aptitude test for professionally qualified students every year in May.
The place, date and time of the examination will be communicated to the candidates individually.

 

Oral examination

General knowledge of applicants on cultural, political, social and economic topics.

It also offers the opportunity to check written grades.

Duration: 30 minutes. Up to three candidates can be examined together.

The fee cannot be refunded in the event of a no-show.
