The organizational unit Studienkolleg (STK) is a central scientific institution at KIT and is divided into three departments with specific tasks:
Studienkolleg - Language Center - MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg

Department Studienkolleg

The Studienkolleg at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has been commissioned by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts to prepare international applicants for the Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) or for the required language certificate (TestDaF-Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache), as well as to improve students' technical German language skills.

Applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification who cannot be admitted directly to a German higher education institution in accordance with the regulations on higher education entrance must prove in the assessment test at the Studienkolleg that they meet the linguistic, subject-related and methodological requirements for taking up studies in the intended field of study and are therefore suitable for taking up studies in this field of study at a German higher education institution.

The TestDaF exam is used to determine whether the applicants can act successfully at a high linguistic level and whether their language skills are sufficient to start studying in Germany.

The Studienkolleg is state-recognized and active in the Association of German State Studienkollegs and licensed as a TestDaF center.

Language Center Department

The Language Center offers foreign language instruction in 15 languages at different levels for students and employees at KIT.

Languages:
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, sign language, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Spanish and Turkish.

The Language Center is a member of the 'AKS-Arbeitskreis der Sprachenzentren an Hochschulen' and also an active member of the 'EUCOR-Confédération européenne des Universités du Rhin Supérieur'. The Language Center is accredited to offer UNIcert® language certifications at four levels for English.

Department MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg

The MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg is a joint institution of the KIT and the University of Stuttgart and supports first-year students in all undergraduate MINT subjects at both locations as a central contact point. The main aim is to promote and improve academic success in the initial phase of studies through targeted measures.

The MINT-Kolleg offers a wide range of courses - from preparatory courses in person and digitally to semester-accompanying and exam preparation courses with individual support. Pre-courses and preparatory courses make it easier to start a STEM degree course, while digital formats such as online bridge courses and tests support subject-related self-assessment. The content and organization of the study-related courses are tailored to the STEM degree programs at KIT and enable students up to the third semester to deepen their knowledge. In addition, flexible structures offer relief through an extended introductory phase.
